About Round Slings for Lifting
Round slings are commonly associated with hoisting equipment for lifting applications. They are endless tubes of high quality polyester material which incorporates a high tensile fibre core. These endless slings have great wear resistance and low elongation. They offer better load protection than other lifting slings.
Benefits of Endless round slings
Using a round sling for lifting tasks can present many benefits. Firstly they are soft to handle and easy to use. Due to the soft but strong fibre core these slings offer a certain amount of padding so that when they are secured around a load tightly they will not cause any surface damage. This makes them particularly suitable for loads that need a bit more protection.
A round sling is endless, meaning that it is a continuous loop of material. They can be used in all hitch types like a straight lift, basket hitch or choke hitch to enable the lifting of loads in a variety of ways. The type of hitch used will have a bearing the safe working load. The SWL you typically see when purchasing these slings is for a straight lift only. When used in any other hitch type the SWL changes somewhat. For example a red 5 tonne round sling can handle loads up to 5 tonne in a straight lift but only 4 tonne in a choke hitch. However with a straight basket hitch you can lift up to 10 tonne. Always refer to the slinging charts to be sure of the maximum safe working load limit for the type of lifting sling and hitch type.

Round Sling Colour Coding
Round slings, just like flat web slings are colour coded to UK industry standards. The reason for this is safety; the SWL of a sling in use can be quickly identified from a distance.
Here is the breakdown of the colour coding with the tonnage for the straight lift.
Purple = 1000kg or 1 tonne
Green = 2000kg or 2 tonne
Yellow =3000kg or 3 tonne
Grey = 4000kg or 4 tonne
Red = 5000kg or 5 tonne
Brown = 6000kg or 6 tonne
Blue = 8000kg or 8 tonne
Orange = 10000kg or 10+ tonne
