About Green Pin Bow Shackles
These bow shackles are made to the same green pin standard as our equivalent green pin d shackles. They are quench & tempered high tensile grade 6 steel which are finished with a hot dipped galvanization process for added protection.
Minus 20 degrees up to plus 200 degrees centigrade is the safe temperature range in which these green pin bow shackles can be used.
They boast a high safety ratio of 6:1 meaning the minimum breaking load of the shackle is equal to 6 x the stated working load limit. However you should not use this information as an ok to use them above the stipulated WLL. This is purely as safeguard and assures you of the high quality. You should NEVER exceed the safe working load limit stated on the shackle.
Bow Shackles for Lifting at an angle
Due to these bow shackles having the rounded bowl shaped saddle, slings tend to sit better in the wider bowl especially when two are used together. The slings can sit at an angle around the saddle enabling angled loading.
There are, however some stipulations to bear in mind when using them in this way, specifically the WLL reductions required.
When used for a straight lift you can use the full WLL stated. If the sling is anything up to 45 degrees the reduction should be 75% of the stated WLL. Between 45 degrees and 90 degrees the working load limit will be reduced by half. See image for correct alighment and WLL reductions.
Green Pin Bow Shackle Options
When deciding on your green pin bow shackle there are a couple of choices to make.
Firstly the type of pin connection, Lifting Hoists Direct can supply either a standard screw pin type shackle or a shackle with a safety bolt and split pin/cotter pin. The latter is the safer option and best used as a semi-permanent connection. Standard screw pin types are great for fast connection and removal.
Think carefully about the lifting tasks you intend to use your shackles in, how will they be used , type of load and the frequency of these lifts. Then you can make an informed choice on the best pin type for your needs.
The second consideration is the maximum working load limit you will likely need. So think about the heaviest load you are likely to lift and choose an option just above.
Lastly consider the dimensions of the shackle, as you go up in lifting capacity you increase the physical dimensions. Refer to the specifications tab above to find out the dimensions of each type of green pin bow shackle. Here you will see the measurements for the bow, eye, pin diameters, plus width and length measurements for the inside and outside.
